This painting is based on Lewis Carroll's book "Alice in Wonderland." The chapter from which this painting gets its name, "Advice from a Caterpillar," has confused and fascinated audiences for over a hundred years. "Who are you?" seems to be the simplest question that Alice cannot answer, as the Caterpillar constantly sends her into spirals of circular logic. The painting captures the sheer scale of not only Alice's small size compared to a large and mysterious world, but also the enigma of her place in Wonderland itself.
